He further said that a recommendation from the State Government is necessary to discuss the proposal for granting ST status to the Meetei/Meitei.
The communication from the Ministry of Tribal Affairs was sent as a response to the memorandum submitted by STDCM to Union Home Minister Amit Shah on December 27, 2020, Bhogendrajit maintained.

Saying that Meetei/Meitei, being excluded from the ST list is in the condition of becoming homeless in its own land as the ethnic group can settle only in the valley of Manipur as per law, the STDCM general secretary opined that a Constitutional safeguard to all ethnic groups of Manipur is necessary to strengthen the emotional ties among the people.
He further stated that the Meetei/Meitei will easily be granted ST status if the State sends the requisite recommendation as the ethic group fulfils all the criteria.
Urging all to acknowledge the inconvenience being faced by Meitei/Meetei due to non-inclusion in the ST list, Bhogendrajit asked all concerned to send the recommendation at the earliest.
