Imphal/Noney, August 29 2021:
The 90th Martyr Day of freedom fighter Haipou Jadonang was observed at various places in the State on Sunday.
The Zeliangrong Civil Organizations (ZCOs) comprising Zeliangrong Baudi, Zeliangrong Youth Front and Zeliangrong Students Union jointly observed the Martyr Day of Haipou Jadonang at Koirengei, Imphal.
The programme was attended by leaders of All Zeliangrong Arts and Cultural Organisation (AZACO), village elders, women's leaders, leaders of youths and student's, intellectuals and well wishers.
The leaders who spoke on the occasion expressed their strong dissatisfaction towards the treatment meted out by the Government of India to Haipou Jadonang who was hanged to death on August 29, 1931 at Imphal jail by the British Administration after implicated him by JC Higgins, the political agent in the unrelated murder case of four betel leave traders.
Colonial rule had termed the resistance movement launched by Haipou Jadonang as "Naga Raj" .
The ZCOs stated that the supreme sacrifice made by Haipou Jadonang at the gallows on the altar of freedom struggle like any other freedom fighters of India has been neglected thus far by the Government of India.
The leaders of the ZCOs on behalf of the Zeliangrong people also appealed to the Government of India to reciprocate and pay deserving respect and honour in a befitting manner to Haipou Jadonang the freedom fighter of India.
Forgetting or neglecting the supreme sacrifice made by Haipou Jadonang even after more than 70 years of India's Independence is nothing less than forgetting the love and sacrifice of one's parents by the ungrateful children, the leaders asserted.
The Zeliangrong leaders further appreciated the State Government for installing the Haipou Jadonang statue and construction of Haipou Jadonang park in recognition of his supreme sacrifice for the freedom movement.
Similarly, Jadonang Memorial Educational Society (JMES) also observed the 90th death anniversary of Haipou Jadonang at Jadonang Memorial College, Longmai-3, Noney DHQ today.
