Imphal, July 26:
Acknowledging the announcement of the 7 MLAs of the SPF Government including two Ministers, that they will resign from their respective posts if the AFSPA is not revoked by August 15, the Working Committee of the 32 organisations spearheading the current agitation said they appreciate the stand of the MLAs but added that it would have been so much better if their stand had been made public before the situation had come to such a pass.
In a statement issued to the press today, the Working Committee, however hoped that the MLAs will translate their assurances into action and not merely remain satisfied with lip service.
The statement further said that earlier the political class of the State appeared lost, with no clue on where to stand, but with pressure mounting from the public, at least some of them have managed to take a stand.
Going on the offensive against the SPF Government for turning a deaf ear to the cries and demands of the people, the statement said that the Government should not live under the illussion that a people's movement can be thwarted by the use of military might.
History is testimony to this fact, it added.
