Giving another dimension to the ongoing demand for the revocation of the Armed Forces Special Powers Act from the State, a 24 year old youth slashed the palm of his two hands with a blade in front of the 17 Assam Rifles Gate today at about 7.30.The act took a number of passers by by surprise, but policemen on duty reacted fast and managed to stop the protestor from inflicting further injuries on his self.
The protestor, identified as Oinam Dinesh Kumar alias Koroba of Bamon Kampu was then taken to the MR Unit hospital for treatment.
Four stitches were required for the gaping wound on the right palm while one stitch was administered on the left palm.
Shortly after this, five protestors also staged a demonstration in front of the Assam Rifles gate with black cloth covering their mouth.
Police swung into action and herded them away.
The five protestors have been identified as Khunjamayum Ibohanbi Meitei (27), Kongkham Brojen (25), Thokchom Ibocha Meitei (25), Moirangthem Nanaobi (26) and Elangbam Sunny (22).Meanwhile the People's Action Committee Against the Brutal Killing of Th Manorama, Bamon Kampu has come out strongly against the SPF Government for failing to redress the grievances of the people.
Around 200 women, including young girls also staged a sit-in-protest at the gate of Manorama's residence wearing black mask.
