Notwithstanding police action against the 13 hunger strikers at Keibi Taretkhul bus parking, demanding revocation of Armed Forces Special Power Act and punishment of AR personnel involved in the killing of Th Manorama, many people across the length and breadth of the State have volunteered to carry on the stir.
The 13 volunteers of United Committee Manipur, Awang Lam Ching-Tam Unit, who were participating in the relay hunger strike, which entered its fourth day, today have been taken into custody by the police and put behind bars.
The UCM Unit has been launching relay hunger strike since July 21 at the bus parking lot.
Denouncing the attitude of the local MLAs who have maintained a stoic silence and did not even care to make a courtesy call on the hunger strikers, the Unit has also threatened to boycott them socially.
Even as the Unit has announced its decision to continue the agitation until all the demands are met, relay hunger strikes have also been launched at various places with many people coming out voluntarily to take part in the stir.
Around 600 people of all communities took part in a mass relay hunger strike at Nongpok Kakching today.
The agitation was launched by Oriental Ching-Tam Peace Committee in association with other local Meira Paibi Lups and Clubs/organisations.
Relay hunger strike agitations are also being launched at Langmeidong Bazar by YLA and YDC, at Hiyanglam by SEDO, at Wabagai by CARD, at Wabagai Lamkhai by UCM Lamkhai Unit and Kanglei Ikan Lup, at Lamjao Bazar by Lamjao Apunba Meira Paibi Lup and at Khanga- bok Bazar by Khangabok Apunba Lup.
On the other hand, sit-in-protest demonstration demanding punishment of guilty AR personnel also continued to be held at different parts of the State.
Around 1500 people took part in a demonstration held at Khonghampat High School Ground today.
Protestors also shouted slogans demanding removal of Armed Forces Special Power Act from Manipur and punishment of AR personnel involved in the custodial killing of Manorama.
The demonstration was jointly organised by Manipur Human Resource Development Centre, Khonghampat, Laikol Lairembi Nupi Lup, Mayai Leikai Women�s Development Organisation, Yaipha Thousil Nupi Lup, Khonghampat Khunou, Mantri Leikai Meira Paibi Nupi Lup, Khonghampat Youth Club, etc.
Protesting against extra-judicial killing of Th Manorama by 17 Assam Rifles personnel, activists of Iroisemba Lourembam Leikai Nisha Bandh Assn staged a dharna and burnt the effigy of CM O Ibobi Singh today.
Similar protest were also staged at Kakwa Bazar, Kongba Bazar, Khergao Community Hall,Lamjao Mayai Leikai, Lainingthou Panganba Laimang, Khundrakpam and along Imphal Ukhrul Road at Kangla Shangomshang.
