Ex-PULF cadre shot dead

Imphal, February 23 2012:
A former cadre of the militant outfit PULF was shot dead by some unidentified persons near Khonglong village under Sapermeina police station in Senapati district.
Bullet-riddled body of Md Amzad Khan (35) of Phundrei Sabal Leikai in Thoubal district but staying at Namching village near Nongchup Keithelmanbi along NH 37 was discovered at a ravine near Khonglong village last morning.
The corpse was retrieved by a team of Patsoi police yesterday afternoon.
Fatal bullet marks were observed on his head.
After his marriage with a local girl, Md Amzad had made his settlement at Namching.
He used to go to Jiribam for trading.
It is said that Md Azad once worked in PULF as well as in a Kuki militant outfit.
The corpse has been handed over to family members after post mortem at RIMS today.
Meanwhile, the corpse of Longjam Dhamen (32) of Keibi Salam who was killed in a reported encounter with a combined team of Imphal East and Imphal West commandos at Chanung on February 21 has been claimed by family members today.
Police claimed that Dhamen was killed in an encounter during the course of an operation conducted to rescue abducted Tej Narayan from Madhubani district of Bihar but staying at Nagamapal.
However, Dhamen's family strongly contended that he was an innocent civilian.
But police maintained that Dhamen was involved in the abduction of Tej Narayan and another abductor Sagolsem Romen (30) of Loushangkhong was apprehended during the rescue operation.
However, one Moirangthem Ranajit alias Abungcha alias Tombi of Wakhong Makha Leikai managed to flee away.
After an inquest in presence of a Magistrate, post mortem examination of Dhamen's corpse was conducted the whole process of which was videographed.
