Semi-low floor bus service debuts

The much awaited semi-low floor bus for ferrying passengers within the market areas commenced from today much to the admiration and relief of the public.
Two semi-low floor buses were flagged off today from MG Avenue by Principal Secretary of MAHUD, S Sunderlal who cut the ribbon.
The flag-off ceremony was also attended by Chief Town Planner, N Geetkumar and DSP of Traffic Control Police, Y Victoria.
Starting from MG Avenue, the buses plied along Paona Bazar and made a turning at Keishampat Traffic Point and went till Lilashing Khongnangkhong Traffic Point via Thangal Bazar before going back to MG Avenue.
Enthusiastic onlookers and passers-by had their day ridiong in the bus.
They expressed that they were elated to see the semi-low floor buses plying inside the market zones.
As the traffic regulation has restricted the entry of vehicles inside Paona Bazar and Thangal Bazar, they said, the commencement of the low floor bus is a relief.

Principal Secretary of MAHUD, S Sunderlal said there has been protest from shop owners against the restriction of vehicles inside the market area.
Taking the matter into consideration, the semi-low floor bus has been introduced on trial basis.
As announced earlier, no fare was charged from passengers today.
However, Rs 5 would be charged from every passenger from tomorrow.
The number of buses would be increased on popular demand, he said.
Efforts have also been put to repair the potholed and bumpy roads of Paona Bazar and Thangal Bazar.
It would also be repaired soon for the comfort of the passengers.
He said, the traffic police and the shop owners would decide to do away with the stacking of shop items at the roadside.
It may be remembered that the daily bus service would begin from 10 am and the service would be available till 4pm.Pick and drop points in Paona Bazar are Purnima Store, Panthoibi Handloom Cottage, Videocon House, Manipur Handloom Industries, Blue Bell Fashion, Diamond Crossing, Cine Still Studio, Pratap Hall, Adidas Shop, and Makubari Shop.
Stoppage points in Thangal Bazar are Old Shed, Activa Store Workshop, Sani Thakur, Tata Tesean, Jallal, Axis Bank, Western Union Bank, PC Jain, Kasturi Crossing, Khadims Opposite and between Ima Keithel.
