High Court notice to SBI

The Gauhati High Court has directed State Bank of India, Imphal branch to release Rs 1,48,959.54 to Heigrujam Jibanmala w/o late S Jayanta of Sega Road, Jailor Lane.
The same order was issued yesterday by Justice T Vaiphei after hearing a writ petition filed by Heigrujam Jibanmala at the High Court.
According to the petition, Jibanmala opened a recurring deposit account under Super Savings Package with SBI, Imphal branch on August 29, 1986 .
Starting from this date, Jibanmala deposited Rs 100 every month for a period of 25 months up to July 2011 .
After maturity of the recurring deposit, the amount grew to Rs 1,56,339.54.When Jibanmala asked the bank to pay her matured amount, the bank deposited only Rs 7,380 in savings account.
She was informed that due to some technical reason, the payment of the balance amount could not be made.
However, the payment was not forthcoming even after waiting for a considerable period of time, compelling Jibanmala to file the writ petition.
After hearing the petition, the High Court directed SBI Imphal branch to release the balance amount of Rs 1,48,959.54 within a period of one month failing which a penal interest of 18 per cent shall be paid to the petitioner with effect from the date of maturity.
