Imphal, January 16:
Even as the Union Ministry of Forest and Environment has instructed NEEPCO and Manipur Pollution Control Board to hold the public hearing on construction of the proposed 1500 megawatt capacity Tipaimukh Multipurpose Power Project at Tipaimukh itself, Chief Secretary Jarnail Singh has today written to NEEPCO for conducting the public hearing within this season.
Disclosing this to The Sangai Express, an official source informed that the Union Ministry has proposed the holding of the public hearing of the mega dam at Tipaimukh where the dam is to be constructed as the Ministry could not issue its environmental clearance based on the earlier public hearings held at Tamenglong and Churachandpur.
Following the instruction of the Ministry for going to the project site for holding the public hearing, Chief Secretary has today written to NEEPCO for conducting the public hearing within the current season.
The State Power Department has also communicated the same to NEEPCO and Pollution Control Board.
the source said.
It may be recalled that the foundation stone of the proposed Tipaimukh Multipurpose Power Project was laid by Union Power Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde last year.
