The 27th foundation day of Kangleipakki Meiraa, a Manipuri eveninger was celebrated at Manipur Press Club here today along with felicitating four selected journalists.
IFC Minister N Biren Singh and Commissioner of Art and Culture P Bharat Singh graced the occasion as chief guest and functional president respectively.
Giving the key note address of the foundation day function, Chief Editor of Kangleipakki Meira Wangkhemcha Shyamjai said that Kangleipakki Meira began its publication on January 2, 1982 as a weekly journal.

In his address as chief guest, Minister Biren pointed out that the journalists should not be bias on any issue while reporting nor compromise with truth of the matter at any cost.
While observing that standard of the newspapers being published in Manipur are higher in comparison with other local newspapers brought out in other parts of the NE region, the Minister noted that it is essential to encourage dedicated and hard working journalists who understand the ethics of their profession.
No journalist should think of their profession lightly.
Instead they should understand what the people expect from them, the Minister added.
Art and Culture Commissioner P Bharat described journalists as educators and said the role of the media in bringing about social change as well as in the attitude of the people is very important.
On the occasion, four journalists were felicitated in appreciation of their work.
They are Gagan Sharma of ISTV (Best Cameraman), Ng Liklaileima of The Sangai Express (Best Female Reporter), Babloo Raj of Poknapham (Best Photo Reporter) and Birmangol of Thoudang (Crime Reporter).
Best Hawker (male) and Best Hawker (female) honours were also extended to Kangjam Sanahal and his wife Kangjam Ongbi Gracy at the occasion.
