Imphal, August 09 2021:
Agriculture Minister O Lukhoi has claimed that certain farmers organisations and individuals are attempting to politicise the distribution of subsidised urea to farmers and added that this is unfortunate.
While distributing urea to farmers at Kumbi Sandhong today, the Minister said that the Agriculture Department has been distributing urea to farmers impartially on the advice of Chief Minister N Biren Singh.
Saying that about 2670 urea bags have been distributed to farmers of Kumbi Constituency through former MLAs, intending candidates and CSOs so far, the MLA continued that process is underway to distribute urea to 1,695 farmers of Kumbi who have submitted requisite documents after verification.
Lukhoi then added that certain farmers' organisations politicising the distribution of urea is unfortunate.
Urging all to stop spreading unfounded allegations on social media under the pretext of exercising democratic rights, the Minister added that the Government is more than welcome to listen to any positive feedback.
He also said that the Government spent Rs 7 to 8 crore to give subsidised fertilizers to the farmers.
Incorporating the transportation charge, the Government is distributing urea to farmers at the rate of Rs 270 per bag, he informed.
As per expert guidelines, only 35 kg of urea should be given for a sangam of land.
However, the Department is giving a 45 kg urea bag instead, the Minister added.
O Lukhoi further said that the Government will continue to distribute urea to farmers in a systematic way.
He also appealed to every farmer to contact the Agriculture Department if anyone is found selling urea above the rate fixed by the Government.
The programme was also attended by Agriculture Director Kh Lalmani, Bishnupur DC Krishnakumar, SP Hopeson Sapam and other officials.
