Imphal, August 09 2021:
FEGOCTA has urged the authorities concerned to revoke the transfer order of its general secretary of Dr N Somorendro Singh, who has been posted to Tamenglong College from Manipur College.
In a release, the college teachers' body said that it was shocked and disappointed by the higher education department's July 15 transfer order of Dr N Somorendro from Manipur College to Tamenglong College, adding that the move came just a few days after the department issued the orders of 7th UGC Pay and Regulations 2018 to end the FEGOCTA's agitation.
FEGOCTA is not against any authority or group.
Its primary objective is to improve collegiate education by implementing national policies of UGC, etc., and work for common interests of the college teachers.
It organised conferences/seminars, contributed money to Chief Minister's Covid-19 Relief Funds, introduced common online classes, etc., which can be seen on the website www.
fegocta.org.
FEGOCTA formed in 2013 by the decision of the leaders of AMGOCTA, AMCTA and GOTAM is the first permanent common body of the college teachers in Manipur, the Federation said.
It then complained that the said transfer order of FEGOCTA's general secretary, that too during the imposition of Covid-19 pandemic restrictions and when online classes and internal assessments are going on have raised several questions.
Stating that the transfer order has dishonoured the March 6 MoU wherein its FEGOCTA general secretary is a signatory, it pointed out that Clause 6 of the MOU mentions that there will be no victimization/disciplinary action against the teachers, who had participated in the agitation, adding that the transfer order has completely ignored the higher education department's own orders No.7 (2) /61/2014-HE dated February 19, 2018 of tenure, transfer and posting of the government college teachers.
FEGOCTA expressed amazement at such action being taken against a teacher over UGC pay revisions in Manipur and said it "does not wish any kind of disturbance on the ongoing online classes, internal assessments and other academic activities".
The teachers' body said that the decision to speak out against the transfer order was taken during its executive committee's online meetings held on August 4 and 8, adding that request letters were submitted on August 6 to the chief minister, education minister, chief secretary and others.
It then appealed to the authorities concerned to revoke transfer order of Dr Somorendro at the earliest in the interest of students and college teaching community.
