Custodial death slur; Three police Commandos suspended

Three personnel of Manipur Police Department have been suspended today in connection with the alleged custodial death of Angousana.
According to a reliable source, the three police personnel have been suspended in connection with the death of Angousana following orders issued by officers concerned of the Police Department today.
The source identified the suspended personnel as head constable of Thoubal district police Shakthi, constable Ng Arunkumar, also of Thoubal district police and Rifleman Baikim of 5th IRB and attached with Thoubal district police commandos.
A resident of Napat Mayai Leikai, Athokpam Angousana (52) was arrested by a team of Thoubal Police Commandos from his house in the night of February 27 .
The following the day, the family members managed to take him out from the police custody.
At that time, Angousana was was in such a condition that he could not stand by himself and speak.
As his condition was serious, the family members took him to RIMS Hospital for treatment.
But he succumbed .
The JAC formed to pursue the matter and ensure justice, submitted a memorandum to the Chief Minister demanding among others, dismissal of the personnel involved in the incident, appointment of one of the family members to a suitable Government job and payment of Rs 5 lakh compensation to the bereaved family members.
As the JAC had announced that the body would not be claimed until all these demands are fulfilled, the body of Angousana is still lying at the mortuary of RIMS even though the post-mortem was conducted yesterday after an inquest in front of a Magistrate.
