Lamka, March 02 2011:
The JAC of Khuga Dam has met several National leaders in New Delhi and raised the contentious issue surrounding the dam despite its inauguration, a source from the committee said.
"We have briefed a good number of Central leaders with regard to the incomplete components of the project that was forcefully inaugurated and pursued the pending bills and compensations", said Lalpu Hangshing, the JAC Chairman.
The JAC team reportedly met and briefed Union Minister for Water Resource and Minority Affairs Salman Kurshid, MoS for Water Resources Vincent Pala, Opposition leaders in the Lok Sabha Sushma Swaraj, BJP's NE in-charge Bijoya Chakravati, Planning Commission's NE Adviser SN Brohmo Choudhury, and Deputy Commissioner Central Vigilance Commission PK Chakraborty.
The Union Minister had promised the JAC that he would send a team from his Ministry to check the present condition at the earliest, while the Planning Commission's Choudhury told them that he would personally visit the dam.
"Sushma Swaraj was serious on the issue and entrusted Bijoya Chakravarty, MP to raise the issue in the Parliament budget session.
She did raise it the following day, that is on February 21, 2011", said Lalpu Hangshing.
The CVC Deputy Commissioner as well told the JAC that he would send an enquiry letter to the Chief Secretary within five days, he added.
