Demanding for a separate department or directorate for the disabled persons in the state, the All Manipur United Disables' Organisation (AMUDO) today submitted a memorandum to the state Chief Minister drawing his attention in the issue, stated a press release of AMUDO.
AMUDO mentioned in the memorandum that disabled persons in the state are not getting many benefits entitled for the disabled persons due to the lack of a separate department or directorate.
Adding to the woe, the state has no full-fledged Commissioner for Disabilities which resulted to the present condition of the disabled persons in the state.
It also mentioned that Commissioner of Social Welfare Department is taking the charge of disabilities also at present.
It is important to have a separate department for the disabled persons with separate budgetary provisions so that all the grievances of the disabled persons including the required PDS items may be provided through such department.
It further demanded to provide concession in public transport vehicles, electric bills and also provide 3 percent reservation according to the section 33 and 40 of the Persons with Disabilities Act, 1995 in all the government establishments.
It also demanded to give all reservation and relaxation admissible to the disabled persons as per the act.
