Presentation of gifts, edibles mark Children's Day celebration

Imphal, November 14 2022:
Several organisations and individuals donated edibles and other essential items to homes for the destitute children as the state joined the nation in the celebration of Children's Day on Monday.
Commemorating the birth anniversary of Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, Department of Social Welfare organised state level Children's Day celebration at Iboyaima Shumang Leela Shanglen, Palace Com pound, here, on Monday.
Speaking on the occasion, additional chief secretary P Vaiphei exhorted the young students to work hard for a better future.
He also pointed out that as the younger generations are future pillars of the society, they should begin working hard to become successful people, while maintaining that it would be futile if human resource is not developed even though there is proper infrastructure.
Among the younger generation, there are numerous differently-abled children who are even more talented than normal ones and they are inspiration to many, he stated and further urged to walk through the path they are familiar with so as to achieve success.
Stating that social welfare is an important department, P Vaiphei said that several schemes are also taken up by the department in addition to implementation of reservation policy for the differently-abled people.
Doors for discussion and query are wide open by the department, he added.
The celebration was also attended by joint secretary Lantanpui Vanchong and joint director of social welfare department Bantee Konthoujam as presidium members.
Government school students performed different cultural programmes and the department presented gifts to the students.
Development Committee celebrated Children's Day cum distribution of school t-shirts on the theme of Educate the poor children' at Heirangoithong High School on Monday.
The function was attended by Committee convenor and All India Federation of Retired University Teachers vice president L Randhoni, GP Women's College ex-principal Y Chandrasakhi, Heirangoithing High School head mistress L Lalita and former additional chief engineer Dr S Shantikumar as presidium members.
Speaking on the occasion, L Randhoni opined that selecting a few schools with the aim of providing quality education could be regarded as an attempt to bring glory, and not an effort to improve the existing education system or bring about quality education.
She then stressed the need for developing the government schools which are not facing shortage of teachers, while recounting the origin, establishment, progress and achievements of Heirangoithong High School till date.
Loktak Ima Observation Home and JJB Bishnupur also jointly celebrated Children's Day at the premises of the home with by JJB member Thambou, Observation Home superintendent A Jaykumar, Kakyai LAC coordinator Tompok and staff of the home exhorting the children to strive for becoming responsible citizens of the future.
Royal Academy, Wangjing celebrated Children's Day to commemorate the 131st birth anniversary of India's first Prime Minister Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru during which school administrative and managing director Jogechandra Laishram along with teaching and non-teaching staff briefed the students about the sacrifices and life history of Jawaharlal Nehru.
As part of the programmes, prizes to meritorious students and winners in sports were also felicitated.
The celebration concluded with distribution of sweets to the students.
In connection with the Children's Day celebration and as part of its golden jubilee year celebration and community service project, Rotary Club of Imphal hosted a grand feast for students of Sagolband Popular Upper Primary School and presented sweaters to them on Monday.
Altogether 94 students and teaching and non-staff of the school along with members of the club attended the feast, which was held under the theme 'Rotary Chaklen Chaminasi'.
According to club president Pramod Jaiswal, similar programmes will be conducted every month at different schools.
Child Welfare Committee (CHC), Kakching presented gifts and edible items to three children's homes in Kakching district and inspected them in connection with the celebration of Children's Day.
Kakching deputy Commissioner Somorjit Salam, District Child Welfare Committee chaiperson Naorem Kumari, District Child Protection officer Konjengbam Anita, SDPO Geetchandra and District Child Welfare Committee staffers visited Morning Star Children's Home for Boys located at Kakching Panjao, Backward Development Service's Children's Home for girls located at Keirak and Jhambal Children's Home for girls located at Arong Khunou.
According to Somorjit, the visit to the children's homes is to encourage the residents by meeting them and also to assess the existing condition of the homes.
He assured of extending all possible help to the children's homes from his side.
