Imphal, November 14 2022:
Congress Legislative Party (CLP) leader and former chief minister Okram Ibobi Singh has stated that India has been able to become a force to reckon with in the world today all due to the hard work and sacrifice of Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru.
Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) observed the 133rd birth anniversary of the first Prime Minister of independent India Jawaharlal Nehru at Congress Bhawan, here, on Monday.
Speaking to newspersons after offering floral tributes to the bust of Nehru at the Bhawan's, Ibobi pointed out that PM Nehru made huge contributions for the development of a new India and north east India.
Everyone across the country and the world are aware of his hard work and sacrifices.
This is not a tale woven by Congress, as compared to some who are still weaving tales of the leader while enjoying the great benefits of a democracy.
The former CM then said that India is able to renew itself and become a superpower, all due to the contributions of Nehru and, so, it could simply be considered as his gift to the people.
This is one of the reasons why Nehru is called the modern architecture of India, Ibobi said.
In his speech, MPCC president Keisham Meghachandra said that Nehru's birth anniversary is also observed as Children's Day.
He then called for protecting the rights of children at all times.
AICC Steering Committee member Gaikhangam, MLA Th Lokeshwar, ex-MLA AK Mirabai Devi and other office bearers of the party also attended the observance.
