Masked men vandalise house, open fire, loot valuables
Source: Chronicle News Service

Thoubal, November 30 2021: Some 60 persons in black cloths and face masked allegedly attacked the house of one Congress worker at Heirok around 9 pm on Monday, vandalised the house, opened fire and threatened women present in the house at gunpoint as well as looted a licenced gun and valuables worth Rs 15 lakh.

The incident happened at the house of one Ningthoujam Bimol (51), son of late N Umor Singh of Heirok Part-III Litan Wangma.

A police team led by Thoubal SP Jogeshchandra Haobijam and additional SP Sachidananda Soibam inspected the incident site on Tuesday.

The team also recovered some used AK empty cases from the courtyard of the house and a case has been registered in connection with the incident.

Speaking to the media regarding the incident, N Bimol recounted that he was coming after attending a marriage event from Imphal late at night but before reaching home he received a phonecall from his friends that his house has been attacked.

After which, he did not go to his home and stayed at another place.

At that time, he recognised few of the attackers which included MLA Thokchom Radheshyam's brothers Th Sanathoi, Dhruba and Tonjam Romen, he claimed.

N Bimol continued that he can monitor the CCTV cameras of his house on his smartphone, but before he could properly see what was happening, the attackers cut off the power line from the transformer causing black out in the area.

The attackers then started shooting, broke CCTV cameras and its monitor.

He then called Sunil, one of his workers in the house, who told him that he too had ran away and was hiding in the fields and that he feared that women in the house might be dead.

As he could not enter the house on Monday, he visited his house on Tuesday morning and found the house totally destroyed and the gold jewellery and the money for his 'Ngari' business kept in the house looted, he claimed.

Bimol lamented that it is very unfortunate that women from the house were threatened at gunpoint to reveal his whereabouts.

All this happened because of election, which is total in contrast to the democratic norms of election in India.

Election should be conducted peacefully with voters allowed to make their choice without any coercion.

The government boasts that law and order has improved in the state, but that is not the case in MLA Th Radheshyam's area, he added.

Bimol also claimed that this is not the first-time attempt has been made to attack his house.

To save his life he has been living at another place.

Though there has been no destruction to his house, he was hearing reports that some people are threatening to kill him and destroy his house.

Recently, when he was in Imphal, he received calls informing him that some people are trying to attack his house.

After monitoring the CCTV cameras of his house via phone, he saw the MLA's younger brother Th Sanathoi in front of his house with some people, though they did not attack the house.

But, on the next day, Sanathoi threatened one of his family members, he alleged.

Bimol further conveyed that to resolve the issue he called Sanathoi and met him in front of the BJP head office in Imphal.

He confronted Sanathoi about trying to attack his house over election, to which he agreed that some people had tried to do so, but he was there to calm things down and stop the attack.

He told Sanathoi not to indulge in violence, Bimol said, adding that he is not much of an active worker now, and let the election be held peacefully.

As the meeting was recently happened, he was completely surprised by the Monday's incident, he said.

Meanwhile, a sit-in protest was staged on Tuesday in front of N Bimol's residence by the denizens of Heirok Part-III Litan Wangma against the attack.
