Imphal, December 27 2021:
Editors' Guild Manipur (EGM) on Monday strongly condemned yet another attempt to malign the media of the state through social media platforms.
Some vested people posted images taken from TOM TV report of an unfortunate incident in which a student was shot dead in Heirok this month.
The image posted on the Facebook page of BJYM Heirok Mandal was edited in such a manner that it not only maligned the reputation of TOM TV but had the potential to create misunderstanding and hatred among the already troubled people of the area, said EGM in a press note.
"The image, still on the Facebook page, seems to have gone viral on several social media platforms also.
The image was taken from the footage of 22nd December 2021 of TOM TV.
Tom TV authority has already submitted a written complaint to the SP Cyber Crime, Manipur Police," it continued.
EGM then said that it expects the Cyber Crime unit to take up the case immediately and book the culprit so that such activities are not repeated in the future.
"This is not the first time media in Manipur have been targeted by people with vested interests.
Several unsolved cases are lying with the Cybercrime already.
EGM would like to draw the attention of the new DGP of Manipur police to take up the matter before the media fraternity decide to take other steps to get justice," it added.
The Guild also appealed to all citizens not to misuse the media resources to spread fake news and create hatred and animosity among the general public.
