Imphal, December 27 2021:
Taking potshots at BJP, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and also Chief Minister N Biren, veteran politician Okram Joy has stated that he is contesting the 12th Manipur Legislative Assembly election in Langthabal AC to fight challenges to democracy.
Addressing an election rally held today at Ahongshangbam Leikai, Liwa Lambi under the aegis of Langthabal Block Congress Committee, Joy recalled that Narenda Modi proudly said Achche Din Aayega (better days will come) when he first entered Parliament in 2014 .
But today, BJP has been violating and defiling democracy instead of bringing any better day.
In addition to wresting total control of the three pillars of democracy; legislature, judiciary and executive, the BJP-led Government has gagged the media, Joy said.
He asserted that the BJP-led Government has been attacking democratic institutions of the country incessantly.
Narendra Modi has been ruling India like Hitler and Mussolini did in Germany and Italy in the past.
There are indications that Chief Minister N Biren too has been following Narendra Modi's dictatorial form of governance, the veteran political leader asserted.
Such acts of dictatorship committed by elected Governments have completely obliterated the meaning of democracy, Joy said.
He asserted that he came forward to contest the election in order to fight the ever growing challenges to democracy.
Joy said that he thought of retiring from electoral politics but he changed his mind at the insistence of MPCC general secretary (organisation) and former candidate L Tilotama and many other former candidates.
"CPI Langthabal Council too has decided to support me", Joy claimed.
He then appealed to the people of Langthabal AC to think for Manipur even if they don't like him, Tilotama and Congress party.
MPCC president N Loken said that deceiving the masses by all kinds of crooked means is an inherent character of both the Central and State Governments led by BJP.
BJP is a party whose words are totally contradicted by their own actions, he said.
Even though Modi claimed himself to be a tea seller at one point of time, he has now befriended big corporate houses and has already started selling many public sector enterprises, Loken remarked.
Contrary to his promise of giving jobs to two crore youth, more than two crore employees have been fired, Loken continued.
If anyone dares to speak against such policies and actions of the BJP Government, they are branded as anti-Nationals, he said.
Now it's time to teach the anti-people BJP-led Government a befitting lesson, asserted the MPCC president.
L Tilotama too spoke at the political conference.
