Sit-in protests move to relocate IOCL office

A sit-in protest against the proposed shifting of Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOCL) Divisional Office, Imphal to Tezpur in Assam was organised by All Manipur IOCL Retail Outlet Dealers' Association in front of Keishampat Tiddim Oil Pump on Monday, Speaking in connection with the protest, retired IAS officer and Association's advisor Oinam Nabakishore stated that the present divisional office has been in Imphal since 1990.If the office is shifted to Tezpur, it will be a great loss not only for the state government but also create serious inconveniences to the public.
He stressed that chief minister N Biren and MPs need to press the Union Ministry of Petroleum not to shift the office.
Nabakishore continued that as the state has 127 petroleum retail outlets, the IOCL office has been vital in ensuring quality and timely supply of petroleum products in the state.
During the time of fuel crisis due to bandhs and blockades, the state government with the cooperation of the divisional office addressed the shortages of transport fuel for the benefit of the public.
Thus, if the same office is relocated to Tezpuf, the state government will also face huge issues, he cautioned.
The advisor also pointed out that the divisional of fice is playing a major role in providing LPG connection to poor households under Ujjwala scheme as well, therefore shifting of the same will affect implementation of the scheme in the state.
He also urged the CM and the MPs to do the needful for maintain status quo on location of the office in the interest of people of the state.
