Imphal, December 27 2021:
The Editors' Guild Manipur (EGM) has strongly condemned BJYM Heirok Mandal for posting morphed image of a screenshot taken from a news report aired by TOM TV regarding the Heirok incident wherein a student was shot dead.
Condemning yet another attempt to malign the media of the State through social media platforms, EGM said the image posted on the facebook page of BJYM Heirok Mandal was morphed in such a manner that it not only maligned the reputation of TOM TV but had the potential to create misunderstanding and hatred among already troubled people of the area.
The image, although taken down from Facebook now, is already viral on several social media platforms.
The image was taken from the footage of December 22, 2021 of TOM TV, said EGM in a statement issued today.
TOM TV authority has already submitted a written complaint to the SP Cyber Crime, Manipur Police.
The Editors' Guild Manipur expects the Cyber Crime unit to take up the case immediately and book the culprit so that such activities are not repeated in the future, added EGM in the statement.
EGM added that this is not the first time media in Manipur have been targeted by vested interest people.
Several unsolved cases are lying with the Cyber crime already.
The Editors' Guild also drew the attention of the new DGP of Manipur police to take up the matter before the media fraternity decided to take other steps to get justice.
EGM also appealed all citizens not to misuse the media resources to spread fake news and create hatred and animosity among the public.
