Romi Meitei's "Eikhoigi Yum" shines at US event

Imphal, April 17 2023: Renowned Mayanglambam Romi Meitei's film, "Eikhoigi Yum" (Our Home) has won the Audience Choice Award for Best Narrative Feature at the Indie Meme Film Festival, 2023, which was held in Austin, USA from April 12 to 16 .

Altogether, 35 films from South Asia participated in the festival.

"Eikhoigi Yum" highlights the importance of protecting the natural ecosystem amidst the need for development.

The film has already won the prestigious FIPRESCI award for Best International Film, presented by the International Critic Forum, in addition to bagging Best Feature Film and five other awards at the Manipur State Film Awards.

The cast of the film includes master Priyojit, Nganthoibi, Bhumeshore and Sorri Senjam; while the crew consisted of Debajit Gayan (sound design), Johny and Bikram (cinematography) and Demba Meitei (production design) .

The film has been jointly produced by Romi Meitei and Sheetal Chingsubam under the banner of Thangarakpa Living Frames.

It is also going to premiere at the 45th Moscow International Film Festival on April 22 as one of the official selections.

Since 2013, Indie Meme has brought South Asian Cinema to the heart of Texas through the signature yearly event, the Indie Meme Film Festival.

Cinema enthusiasts joined the festival from many countries like India, Nepal, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Afghanistan, Iran, and Bhutan.

Selected projects range from social realist dramas to independent horror, family epics to romantic comedies, documentaries, and even experimental shorts, the organisers said.
