Panel to probe graft charges in seven departments

A meeting of the High Powered Committee (HPC) under the Manipur Public Servants' Personal Liability Rules, 2006 will be held on Wednesday in the office chamber of chief secretary Dr Rajesh Kumar to deliberate on cases related to alleged irregularities committed by public servants in seven departments.
According to a notification issued by deputy secretary (finance/PIC) A Heera on Monday, the departments under scanner are social welfare, fisheries, Rural Development & Panchayati Raj (RD&PR), relief & disaster management, minority affairs, higher education and power.
The alleged irregularities in Social Welfare Department pertain to dis-engagement of 10 staff members in different nomenclature of Manipur State Commission for Women.
The notification asked additional chief secretary and director of social welfare department to attend the meeting in person with relevant documents and explain their position on the same.
The case to be discussed for fishery department is about alleged misappropriation of Rs 1,27,30,004 by the then director in-charge of the department, who has retired now, and secretary, director & SP (vigilance and anti-corruption cell) are asked to attend in person.
The case for RD&PR department is about alleged misappropriation of public money for implementation of Integrated Rural Electrification Programme (IREP) by Md Asad Ali, EO (P) with reference to a vigilance case.
Additional director & director of the department as well as OC of Bishnupur police station have been asked to attend the meeting in person.
The committee will also probe alleged misappropriation of Rs 70,60,400 by MOBC deputy director Dr K Lokhol under minority affairs department for which commissioner & director of minority affairs have been directed to attend the meeting in person.
In higher education department, the panel will probe alleged misappropriation of UGC fund amounting to Rs 83,32,085 by the then principal in charge of Lilong Haoreibi College Md Khalilur Rahman, with commissioner of higher & technical education and director of higher education asked to attend the meeting in person.
The case pertaining to power department relates to alleged irregularities in releasing of CDA by the department, and the notification directed commissioner (power) and managing directors of both MSPCL and MSPDCL to attend the meeting in person with relevant documents.
