Imphal, November 08 2016:
A commotion erupted when an election meeting of BJP was attacked by pelting stones at Sawombung community hall under Lamlai Kendra today.
Apart from intending candidate Khongbantabam Ibomcha, BJP Manipur Pradesh former president Meinam Bhorot and BJP Manipur Pradesh secretary P Premananda were also present at the meeting.
According to information culled from the spot, the meeting started at around 11 am.
As a tense situation was already prevailing there due to conflicts among intending candidates who have been seeking BJP tickets, police personnel were deployed around the meeting venue.
Sometime after the meeting started, some persons started pelting stones at the community hall which resulted in a ruckus.
Soon after the meeting was terminated at the advice of police personnel deployed there.
Speaking at the political conference held under BJP Lamlai Mandal before it was cut short, Meinam Bhorot said that the 'special status' given to Manipur was revoked after the State Government sent reports which claimed that Manipur has developed quite a lot.
Commenting on the issue of National Sports University, Bhorot remarked that the issue had its roots in the State Government's inability to provide necessary land.
The Central Government has already sanctioned Rs 100 crore to the State Government for establishment of a National Sports University, Bhorot said.
P Premananda said that it was Congress party which disturbed the territorial integrity of Manipur.
It was Congress party's Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru which gifted away Manipur's Kabow Valley to Myanmar.
Again former Chief Minister Rishang Keishing and current Deputy Chief Minister Gaikhangam signed on a document in 1972 which endorsed integration of Naga inhabited areas, Premananda said.
Kh Ibomcha said that no problems can be solved until and unless there is good governance.
Meanwhile, BJP Lamlai Mandal treasurer Laitonjam Jiban has accused Kh Ibomcha of inviting the violent disturbance.
Speaking to media persons at Sawombung today, Jiban said that there are three persons who have been preparing to contest the State Assembly election in Lamlai AC on BJP ticket.
The three intending candidates namely Sarat Kumar, Poireihanba and Ibomcha are all executive members of BJP.
The violent disturbance broke out today as Ibomcha did not consult the two other intending candidates and attempted to project himself as the sole organiser of the political conference.
The political conference was a transgression by one executive member into the home polling of another executive member, Jiban said.
He then expressed keen desire to forge unity among BJP members and supporters in order to defeat Congress candidate in Lamlai AC rather than indulging in infighting.
