Imphal, March 27, 2014:
The 10th Manipur State Art Exposition 2013 organized by Manipur State Kala Akademi under the sponsorship of Lalit Kala Akademi, New Delhi began from Wednesday at the Art Gallery, Art & Culture Department at Palace Compound here.
The inaugural function was graced by Th Tombi, National Lalit Kala Akademi Awardee and Ch Premananda Roy, State Kala Akademi Awardee and K Sobita, Director of Art & Culture as Chief Guest, President and Guest of Honour respectively.
Speaking on the occasion, Tombi asserted that owing to the lack of facility and attention by the government, many painters in the State have shifted to other works for their livelihood and thus the number of painters has come down in the State.
This needs to be rectified.
He also stressed on the need for earmarking special fund in the State budget for paving a long term way for fine arts to flourish and pointed out that in the absence of any help from the State Government, artistes of the State are compelled to bear expenditures themselves to take part in exhibitions held in different parts of the country.
