Scrutiny okays all 8, cops comb for UGs

All the eight candidates who have filed their nomination papers in Inner Manipur P/C have been cleared to contest the Lok Sabha election after scrutiny today even as security forces intensified search operations to facilitate disturbance-free polling in the State.
Inner Manipur P/C Returning Officer and Imphal West DC K Radhakumar today examined the documents together with the candidates and their agents at his Lamphelpat office today.
The eight candidates whose names have been cleared are Dr Th Meinya (INC), Dr RK Ranjan (BJP), Dr M Nara (CPI), O Jotin (JMP), G Tonsana (MDPF), Kh Ibomcha (AAP), Sarangthem Manaobi (TMC) and Indira Oinam (Ind).
The last date for withdrawal of nomination papers is March 9 and draw of lots for symbols to be allotted to independent candidates would be held at 3 pm of the same day.
On the other hand, RO Radhakumar held a meeting with observers, DCs and SPs and discussed about holding the election peacefully.
Meanwhile, the RO of Outer Manipur P/C has taken necessary measures to dispatch postal ballots for service voters.
There are around 9000 service voters in the State and 7000 of them are residents of Outer Manipur P/C. Ahead of the ensuing Lok Sabha election, police have stepped up search operations in the valley districts.
Sources informed that one cadre of KCP (Noyon) was apprehended along with one Chinese hand grenade at around 10.30 am during a search operation conducted by Thoubal police commandos at Sangaiyumpham yesterday.

The apprehended cadre has been identified as one Chesam Md Abdul Rashid (34) of Sangaiyumpham Puleipokpi Mairenkhul.
He was reportedly involved in carrying out a grenade attack at the Sangaiyumpham Puleipokpi residence of Sangaiyumpham Gram Panchayat Member Md Ramizuddin in the intervening night of March 23 and 24. Another search operation was conducted by Thoubal Police at Kakching Irum Mapal this morning under the supervision of ASP (Law and Order) Dr Sarangthem Ibomcha.
In the course of the search operation which started at 5.30 am and went on till 7.30 am, 15 persons were taken to Kakching police station for verification.
Former UG cadres who are out on bail and individuals who could not produce identity cards were among those pulled up for verification.
A similar search operation was conducted by a joint team of Bishnupur Police and 5/9 Gorkha Rifles from 5 am to 8.30 am today at Tronglaobi Makha Leikai.
Altogether seven persons were taken to Moirang police station for further verification.
