JFD asks officials to stop attending census training

Imphal, August 13 2026: The Campaign for Just and Fair Delimitation (JFD) has asked all concerned Government officials to stop attending census-related training programmes.

A statement issued by the JFD has declared that it will oppose and disrupt all census-related training programmes.

It appealed to all sections of people to inform the JFD if they have any information of census-related training programmes and where they are held.

Categorically saying that the Manipur Police should not commit any excess against people participating in the ongoing movement to protect the interests and future of all indigenous communities, the JFD said that the Manipur Police will be declared as anti-indigenous people if they (Manipur Police) continue to act in a hostile manner to the protesters.

A public consultative meeting was held today at Itham Mamang Leikai, Imphal East on the importance of updating the NRC before conducting the census exercise.

Speaking at the consultative meeting, JFD finance secretary Sunil Karam said that Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand does not have the courage to give a detailed account of the present situation in Manipur or ask Central leaders to defer census operations.

The incumbent Government does not have any intention to identify and deport illegal immigrants, he said adding that the Government must be taught a befitting lesson for the sake of future generations.

If census operations are carried out under the prevailing situation, it would be tantamount to handing over political power to illegal Kuki immigrants, Sunil Karam said.

He said that Kukis have been waiting for the decadal census to spike their population figure.

If census operations are conducted under the prevailing situation without first updating the NRC, and delimitation is carried out based on the same census data, the number of Kuki legislators will rise and this will lend a strong force to their demand for a separate administration, he warned.

The consultative meeting was jointly organised by the Itham Village Development Committee, Tumukhong Village Authority, Moirang Purel Village Development Committee and Laikhong Village Authority under the aegis of JFD .

Meanwhile, the Naga People's Union Imphal (NPUI) has pledged full support to all activities undertaken by the JFD in pursuit of its demand "No NRC, NO Census" .

The NPUI has also expressed strong objection to conducting census operations before updating the NRC .

The State Government has not yet provided any concrete assurance or a positive response to the people's collective demand for the identification of illegal immigrants before the census operation, the NPUI said in a press release.

The situation facing Manipur today is a result of the influx of illegal immigrants into the State from outside Manipur, and the ongoing movement is for safeguarding the interests and future of the next generation, it said.
