Tamenglong, February 03 2014:
Tamenglong district administration has so far been able to provide only 21 man-days as against the target set for ensuring 100 man-days to the job card holders under the National flagship programme of Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme.
According to an official source, although the Rural Development (RD) agency of the district has set target of generating 100 man-days for the financial year 2013-2014, so far, an average 21 man-days have been generated.
In the last financial year 2012-13 as well, the district set the target of generating 100 man days and achieve 86 man-days, thereby becoming one of the most successful districts in the country in term of implementation of the scheme.
When contacted, officials of Rural Development Agency Tamenglong on Sunday said that there is no dearth of fund for the implementation of the national flagship programme.
But the downfall in the number of man-days is due to the inability of completing the Management of Information System (MIS) in time mainly on account of lack of internet facility at the block offices.
Another hurdle towards achieving the target is the delay in the release of the sanctioned fund, the officials disclosed.
They further informed that the number of job card holders in the district has been increasing with every passing year.
The number of job card holders was 26324 last year, but at present it is 27897.Out of these 27897 job card holders, 9631 are in Tamenglong block, 6279 in Tousem block, 3629 in Nungba block and 4665 in Khoupum block.
