Imphal, February 03 2014:
The recent verdict of a Bangladesh Court which awarded death penalty to ULFA leader Paresh Barua in absentia in connection with seizure of arms and ammunition from Chittagong in 2004 was an untruthful, hasty conspiracy hatched between the Government of India and Bangladesh Government led by Sheikh Hasina, alleged the proscribed UNLF.
A press release issued by the outfit's Senior Publicity Officer Ksh Yoiheiba remarked that the recent Court verdict not only disparaged the Mukti Bahini freedom movement of 1971 and its poignant history but also undermined the freedom struggles of Western South East Asia or the so called India's North East.
The recent Court verdict was part of Awami League Government's India appeasement policy which is characterised by offensive strategies against revolutionary groups of WESEA.
Nonetheless, the Government of Bangladesh should not overlook the fact that millions of Bangladeshi refugees were given shelter in WESEA particularly in Assam, Meghalaya and Tripura during the tumultuous period of the war of freedom.
Apart from disappointing many nations across the world who are waging freedom movements, the treacherous trial and the verdict posed a challenge to the people of WESEA.
UNLF strongly condemns the treacherous trial and all civilized nations, particularly the people of Bangladesh ought to condemn the same verdict.
UNLF also endorsed the representation sent by ULFA Chairman Abhijit Asom to the Government of Bangladesh to withdraw the Court verdict passed against Paresh Barua.
Claiming that the wars of liberation being waged in WESEA is known all over the world, UNLF asserted that Bangladesh which got independence after a bloody war should not support India which is subjecting the people of WESEA to all kinds of repressive measures.
