Imphal, February 03 2014:
Manipur People's Party (MPP) has blamed the Centre for unabated racist attacks on northeastern people in Delhi and other parts of the country.
Addressing media persons at the head-office of MPP here today, the party's Spokesperson H Nabashyam said that the Centre cannot safeguard the northeastern people even in the National Capital.
There have been many racist attacks and hate crimes committed against the NE people throughout the country, but still the national leaders are not bothered about sensitive
issues.
Moreover, the three MPs from the State could not raise even a single issue in the Parliament.
Their presence in Delhi as representatives of the State seems to be meaningless.
The State Government should also urge the Centre to take up stringent measures to deal with hate crimes against the northeast people, he noted.
Nabashyam further slammed the Indian Government for imposing the Armed Forces Special Powers Act (AFSPA) in the State even when such draconian law is not imposed in the Maoist-active states.
