A three-day workshop for police officers who would be assigned election duty and the responsibility of providing security cover to VIPs/VVIPs coming from outside the State for election campaign was opened today at 1st MR Banquet Hall.
The workshop is being organised under the aegis of Manipur Police Headquarters.
DGP Sahid Ahmed opened the workshop which is being participated by SPs of all districts and COs of all MR and IRB battalions.
Officers of SPG and IB spoke at the workshop which is being specially organised for providing security cover to VIPs/VVIPs who may come to the State for LS poll campaign.
The workshop is organised in view of the scheduled and likely visit of different political heavyweights including BJP's Prime Ministerial candidate Narendra Modi and AICC vice-president Rahul Gandhi, said a senior police officer.
Notably, Narendra Modi is scheduled to address a public rally at Imphal on February 8 .
Meanwhile, the Election Commission of India has already convened a meeting of all Chief Electoral Officers at Delhi in connection with the forthcoming Lok Sabha elections.
The election schedules may be announced either at the end of February or in the first week of March.
The CEO has already informed the Election Commission of India that Manipur would require 150 companies of central paramilitary forces if the Lok Sabha election for two seats is held in a single phase and 74 companies of central paramilitary forces if it is held in two phases.
