Deputy CM woos Tamenglong with promise of food security

The Government of India has introduced Food Security Act in the hope of completely eradicating hunger from the country and to make its citizens go hunger free, said Deputy Chief Minister Gaikhangam while speaking at a district level discussion meeting on Food Security Act with regard to Tamenglong district at Hotel Classic here today.
He said that the Act, which is first of its kind in the whole world, is a people oriented programme and has been conceived keeping in mind the poor citizens of the country.
Z.Kikhonbou Newmai, Vice Chairman of Hill Area Committee (HAC), Manipur; Soihem Haomei, Chairman of ADC Tamenglong, other members of the ADC and sub divisional officers of Tamenglong, Nungba, Tousem and Tamei attended the discussion programme.

Gaikhangam maintained that the Act has been passed keeping in mind the grievances faced by the citizens of the country.
The main objective of the act is to fill up the stomachs of each and every citizen in the country and have well stocked food-grains in each household regardless of caste, creed and status.
He also said that the beneficiaries of the scheme need to be well aware of their basic rights through the Act and try to attain most of its benefits.
A person who cannot take advantage of his right is hopeless, he added.
For the Act to be implemented successfully, help from the citizens plays a major role, he said, while expressing concern over the employees/authorities who work fraudulently at catering or distribution of the products.
Gaikhangam pointed out that if during their work, the datas are entered wrongly, then the concerned individuals should be charged with negligence of their duties and his/her crime should be produced within 24 hours for necessary action and punishment.
C.Arthur W, Deputy Commissioner of Tamenglong, while speaking at the occasion, said that out of a total of 24,477 households in Tamenglong district, the number of households worthy to be genuine beneficiaries are 21,281.The work of finalizing the beneficiaries for the household is almost completed and is being selected based on 2011 census.
