MSF to observe Students' Martyrdom Day

Imphal, July 29 2022:
To commemorate the sacrifice made by Pebam Chittaranjan, who self-immolated in pursuance of the public demand for repeal of the draconian AFSPA 1958, Manipuri Students' Federation (MSF) will observe the 18th Students' Martyrdom Day on August 16.In a release, MSF informed that the observance will began from 5am with invocation (yakairol) at Kwakeithel head office followed by offering of floral tribute to the statue of Chittaranjan installed at Bishnupur and at his Kwakeithel Takhel Leikai residence.
A silent rally will also be taken out from his residence to THAU ground, where a public meeting will be held.
Though India has been an independent nation for more than 75 years, it continues to impose the draconian black law 'The Armed Forces (Special Powers) Act-1958; MSF denounced, while pointing out that the Act has been violating the rights of the people of Jammu Kashmir and North East states.
With immunity granted under the Act, security forces have killed numerous people, raped women, tortured innocent people and left many maimed for life, MSF said, while adding that 'Athouba' Pebam Chittaranjan resolved to become a human torch to spur the people's movement against AFSPA.
