SFs recover arms & amnios, IEDs

Imphal, May 25 2022:
A joint team of Bishnupur district police and 16 Assam Rifles reportedly recovered cache of arms and ammunition from Kamong Maning Leikai on Wednesday.
According a police report, the combined team conducted an extensive search operation around 3 am at Kamong Maning Leikai along the western foothill and the arms and ammunition which were hidden near the dam of Leimakhong river at Kamong Maning Leikai.
The recoveries include one MA-1 assault rifle, three MA-1 assault rifle magazines, 54 live rounds (5.56mm) of MA 1 assault rifle, one local-made .32 pistol and magazine with four rounds, one Chinese hand grenade and four Kenwood handheld sets.
The recovered arms and ammunition which were suspected to be hidden by valley-based insurgent groups were seized at 4.15 am and handed over to Nambol PS for further necessary action.
No arrest was made during the operation, the report mentioned.
Meanwhile, Tengnoupal Battalion of IGAR (S) recovered two Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) near Border Pillar-88 along the Indo- Myanmar border in Tengnoupal district on Tuesday.
According to PRO IGAR (S), troops of Assam Rifles intercepted movement of suspicious individuals along Indo-Myanmar border.
On observing the Assam Rifles troops approaching, the individuals fled towards Myanmar leaving behind two IEDs.
The recovered lEDs were destroyed on the spot itself for ensuring security in the region and prevention of any loss to life or property, added the PRO.
In another security-related activity, teams of Imphal West district police commando conducted search operation in and around Thangmeiband Lourungpurel, Thangmeiband Kabrabam Leikai, Jain Mandir, BT road, Pratap crossing and Ima Keithel areas on Wednesday.
Over 100 houses were searched and 200-plus people verified during the operation.
There is, however, no report of any arrest made.
