Womenfolks threaten stir over pending release of relief money

Womenfolks of Wabagai Thingel Leikai have threatened to different forms of intense agitation in case the locally collected money used in the repair of Sekmai river banks that got damaged in the last year flood is not released at the earliest.
Speaking to media
persons at Manipur Press Club today, Mayengbam Nungsitombi, secretary of Wabagai Tera Urak Meira Paibi Lup said that the river banks were repaired by the locals as per the instruction of Water Resources Department officials who assured the locals
that the locally collected money will be released once the repair work is completed.
She said that the Sekmai river banks were severely damaged in the flood occurred in May of last year, causing devastation to the village.
She claimed that
many houses and properties including agriculture fields were destroyed by the water overflowed from the river.
She mentioned that the repair work of the river banks was supervised by engineers of Water Resources Department every day.
The repair work was also inspected by DC Kakching, SDO and SP of the district, she added.
She also said that the department officials had taken progress report of the work from the locals.
Nungsitombi further said that the department was repeatedly urged to release the relief money but no positive has been provided so far.
Members of Wabagai Social Welfare Club and Kadajit Youth Welfare Associated Club were also present at the press meet.
