Mission Myanmar team returns home, given warm welcome

An 11-member team of Shija Eye Care Foundation, which has returned after successful completion of Mission Myanmar for Sight, was given warm welcome by Dr.Kh Ratankumar, Minister of Works and Transport, Govt of Manipur during a reception function at Shija Hospitals campus, Langol here today.
Led by Dr.Kh Palin, Chairman cum Managing Director, Shija Hospitals and Research Institute (SHRI), other members in the team included Dr.Sachindra Laishram, Consultant Eye Surgeon; Dr.Keisham Romen, Consultant Eye Surgeon; Chingangbam Dhananjoy, Legal Advisor; Dr.Bonney Kh, CEO of SHRI; Pukhrambam Pusparani, Opthalmic Technician; Loitongbam Homendrajit, Opthalmic Technician; Oinam Junney, Nurse; Chongtham Rataneshor, Opthalmic Technician; Sukham Geeta, Nurse; Premjit L, Asst Manager Business Development.
The team had been flagged off by Konthoujam Govindas, Minister of Commerce and Industry and Sericulture, Govt of Manipur from Shija Hospitals campus in the morning of December 24.Mission Myanmar for Sight was a collaborative effort of Govt of Manipur, Govt of Myanmar, Indian Consulate General and Shija Eye Care Foundation to contribute towards providing vision to those affected by cataract blindness in the country of Myanmar.
During the Mission, the team successfully performed 178 surgeries in three days.
The team set up and prepared for the operations in the morning of December 26 and operated till December 28 .
According to Myanmar population it is estimated that over 1.8 million people of Myanmar are suffering from cataract blindness.
They have lost the joy of seeing the beauty and wonders of the world around them.
There is a lack of eye care services in Sagaing division of Myanmar.
During the reception function, Mission Myanmar for Sight team shared their experience and said said that the staff of Monywa General Hospital extended their full co-operation for the success of the Mission.
Dr.Romen K and Dr.Sachindra L, Consultant Eye Surgeons, said that the team found most of the cases complicated as these cases had been neglected due to lack of facilities.
However, all the operations were successful.
They also expressed their belief that they can do more in the future.
Dr.Kh Bonney and Mr.Dhananjoy Ch expressed their heartiest congratulations to the team of Shija Eye Care Foundation saying that the team had performed with full dedication and determination in the mission.
They also felt fortunate to have had an opportunity to be a part of the team on this goodwill initiative between the two nations.
Minister Dr.Kh Ratankumar appreciated the work done by the Shija Eye Care team and Shija Hospitals.
He commended the work and effort put in by the team and said that Dr.Palin and his team make things happen at the right time.
He also spoke of the potential of North East India and Myanmar for growth and development.
He wished good luck to Shija and the team for their future endeavors.
Earlier delivering the key note address, Dr.Palin noted that the lack of eye care services was so evident that the Eye Surgeon of Monywa General Hospital had travelled to Singapore for PHACO surgery on himself.
