AMEA's recommendation for industrial development released

Manipur Industries minister Govindas Konthoujam today released a six-point recommendation following an industrial development dialogue on "State of Industrial Potentials in Manipur and Look East Policy of India," held at Hotel Classic under the aegis of AMEA on June 10 this year.
Speaking on the occasion of releasing the six-point recommendation at the ministerial block, Secretariat here, Govindas announced that three separate directorates for Handloom, Handicraft, and Trade and Commerce, now under a single directorate, will be set up soon for further expansion and development of the three directorates in view of the Look East Policy.
Considering the growing need of strengthening the state entrepreneurs behind the Look East Policy, the dialogue was organised by the All Manipur Entrepreneurs' Association (AMEA) .
Govindas said that the proposed directorate for Trade and Commerce will also cover the Geology and Mining, informing further that this initiative has been taken up by the state Government taking into consideration the Look East Policy.
Govindas said the department has also taken up various policies to bridge the gap between the Commerce and Industries Department and entrepreneurs, and that special officials will be employed in the department to improve the relations with the public, particularly the entrepreneurs.
He also informed that the Government has planned to set up an advisory board which will guide the department in all its activities.
The minister went on to say that it has become a crucial step to strengthen the state entrepreneurs with the dawn of the Look East Policy.
After a thorough deliberation during the dialogue, AMEA has recommended six points-setting up of an industrial advisory board, separate cells, separate Commerce and Investment Directorate, formulating an entrepreneurs-guided-Government-led policy, revamping of Manipur Industrial Development Corporation Ltd (MANIDCO), and a vision industries, 2025, Manipur with the objective of preparing long-term industrial perspective plan.
Prof N Mohendra, who was also participating in the function, highlighted the need for controlling all the state entrepreneurs under a single roof and focusing more on agro-based industries.
The eminent economist and advisor of AMEA said with the dawn of Look East Policy, different short-term skill development programmes are required to confront the Look East Police, suggesting that a Government committee should be set up to monitor and handle the new policy.
"Manipur could face danger if the Look East Policy starts introduction in the state without a preparatory plan to tackle it," Mohendra said.
Representatives of AMEA and various booming entrepreneurs were also present at the function.
