Movers and shakers of Gangte feted

Recognizing the skills and talents of Gangte People and to honour their achievements and accomplishments in various chosen fields Huihchim Awards-2013, or Gangte People's Awards-2013 were distributed during a ceremony organised by Huichim Media Foundation at the community hall of Chiengkonpang in Churachandpur district today.
The award distribution ceremony was graced by Deputy Chief Minister Gaikhangam as Chief Guest and Parliamentary Secretary in-charge of Horticulture and Science Vungzagin Valte as Functional President while Chairman of ADC Churachandpur Langkhanpau Guite as Guest of Honor.
Many VIPs, prominent public leaders and dignitaries were also present on the occasion.
Huihchim Magazine is a Bi-lingual monthly published since August 2012.It is the only magazine published in Gangte Language as of today.
Various Awards catering to different walks of life and trade-be it social, music, literature or culture were handed out by the Magazine during the ceremony.
The Lifetime Achievement Award was given to Dr Gin Gangte, IIS for his enduring allegiance, exceptional innovativeness and distinct contribution towards the Gangte Tribe.
The Personality of the Year 2013 was awarded to Lienkhopau Thangjom, President Gangte Literature Society, Manipur for his exemplary diligence, unfaltering determination and unparalleled accomplishments in the field of Gangte Literature and its progression by achieving its recognition as one of the Dialects under M.I.L category by the government of Manipur.
Outstanding Personality 2013 was awarded to Dr David Gangte, who is presently serving as Senior Resident, RIMS Imphal for his meritorious achievement, exceptional professionalism and path breaking accomplishment by becoming the first Doctor of Medicine (M.D.) among the Gangtes.
The Best Writer Award was given to Soizalal H Thangjom, Retd ZEO, in appreciation of his immense contribution towards enrichment and promotion of Gangte Language, Letter and Culture through scholarly essays and perforating study.
The Best Veteran Singer award was presented to Goukhosiem, who came up with his first studio effort, Anpak in 1982. The Best Singer Male was awarded to PCL Thuoma, whose recent Music Video Album Chungmuvanlai was a massive hit.
Best Singer Female went to Tracy Ngaihching, a young songstress, who is best known for her Christmas Album Bethlehem Aksi.
Best Lyricist Award goes to L Thiembawi while M Sawmlal, Chief of Chongchin who has composed more than 210 songs in Gangte dialect was given Special Award for his enormous volume of lyrics.
Moreover, the award for Sportsperson of the Year 2013 was given to Boithang Gangte, a mercurial Striker who plays for Muvanlai Football Club, Sadar Hills in recognition of his marvelous talent, endurance and achievement in the field of Sports.
Jennifer Kimnuntluangi and Sangboi K Gangte with academic score of 88% and 93% were also feted for being the highest rank Gangte students in class X and XII respectively.
Speaking on the occasion, Gaikhangam eulogized that Gangtes are talented folks who have made rapid progress in all fields.
Although small in numbers, Gangte is one of the most advanced tribes in Manipur, he noted.
Gaikhangam further mentioned that Gangtes are progressive due to their god fearing nature, the bed rock for any society to move ahead.
In his address while re-unveiling the renovated memorial stone of Late Demkhosiek Gangte (Gangte Pasalpha), the Dy CM revealed that Late Demkhosiek Gangte has been a role model for him owing to his altruism, humility and patriotism.
The Dy CM further stated that he feels at home whenever he visits Gangte community and his stopover at Chiengkonpang was no different.
