Imphal, September 23 2011:
Despite the repeated assertion of the Revenue Minister Devendra, who is also the MLA of Jiribam that no foreigners have intruded and settled in Jiribam, the influx of outsider, particularly Bangladeshi Muslims into Jiribam, continues.
The state government has still not charted out any strategic plan regarding the intrusion of foreigners in the state via Jiribam.
The Barak river running between Jiribam and Assam is the main entry point of the Bangladeshi Muslims in Jiribam.
When the state security forces are checking the entry of foreigners through the bridge build on the Barak river, the illegal intruders are making their entry in Jiribam through the river, said a security personnel deployed at the check post in Jiribam, who refused to identify himself.
He further revealed that the Bangladeshi Muslims intruding into the territory of Manipur are taking the advantage of Bengali Muslims settling in Latil Khan and Borobekra.
Recently two new houses came up in the area, but were forced to dismantle them immediately by the state forces.
Locals of Jiribam on condition of anonymity said that the population of outsiders in Jiribam has far exceeded the indigenous population in the area.
Merely checking the intrusion of foreigners and outsiders at the check post at the bridge connecting Jiribam and Assam won't bear fruit.
The state government should come up with a specific policy in this regard.
The security personnel deployed in Jiribam further said that almost all the outsiders and foreigners settling in Jiribam illegally are black marketers.
They carry on their business smoothly through the waterways and the state police with shortage of manpower are unable to control the influx as well as their illegal business.
