Imphal, September 23 2011:
Jiribam District Demand Committee (JDDC) has categorically stated that there would be no let up to the intensity of the ongoing agitation over the demand for upgradation of Jiribam sub-division to a revenue district even though Khundrakpam Rajkumar who launched a fast unto death stir in support of the demand has been arrested and jailed by the police on September 15 .
In a statement, convenor of JDDC M Maipaksana Mangang contended that the agitation being spearheaded by the District Demand Committee is within the purview of law and the fast unto death stir of Rajkumar should not be viewed differently from what many Indian freedom fighters had undertaken during the freedom movement of India.
So, the Government of Manipur should not impose any condition over Rajkumar.
Even if Rajkumar has been arrested and put behind the bar, there would be no let up in the agitation of JDDC until the demand is fulfilled.
In fact, Meira Paibis and public of Jiribam cutting across community line have been responding in large number to the ongoing relay hunger strike and JDDC is prepared for taking up various intense agitations in consultation with the people.
So, the Government of Manipur should consider the demand without testing the tolerance limit of the people of Jiribam, Maipaksana cautioned.
