Seminar on 15 Point Programme held

A one day State level seminar cum awareness programme on Prime Minister's 15 Point Programme for the Welfare of Minorities was held today at Kakching under the aegis of the All Manipur Meitei Christian Forum.
The function held at Kakching Mayai Leikai community hall was attended by MPCC president Gaikhangam, MLA Y Surchandra, Manipur State Minorities Commission Chairperson A Helim Choudhury, MLA M Hemanta, MLA Dr U Deben and Kakching Municipal Council Chairperson M Inakhunbi Devi as presidium members.
Giving key-note address of the function, Manipur State Minorities Commission Secretary N Damu said that the Prime Minister's 15 Point Programme was launched by late Prime Minister Indira Gandhi in 1983 .
Carrying on the programme, Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh announced a new 15 Point Programme recently.
The main focus of the 15 Point Programme is education, economy and social conditions of minorities.
Though India boasts of being the largest secular country, the UN Declaration on Human Rights at Durban in 2002 identified India under 'Racism Plus' category which means high prevalence of racism and discrimination, said North East Support Centre and Helpline spokesperson Rev Madhu Chandra.
