Imphal, May 28 2013:
The World Heritage Day should be observed widely throughout the State with the objective of preserving the rich heritage for the future generation, exhorted Superintendent of Archaeology Department Dinamani while talking to Heuiyen Lanpao.
He said that April 18 is being observed as World Heritage Day by UNESCO every year, but people seem to have little knowledge about the importance of preserving heritage.
This year's observance was organized by Archaeology Department at Willong Village in Senapati district.
The Department is constantly studying various heritage sites in the interior hill villages of the State, Dinamani noted.

The Superintendent further said that Willong is a small village inhabited by about 600 people.
The village is about 30 kilometres from Senapati District Headquarters and 115 kilometres from Imphal.
It comes under the Protected Area covering a total area of 2086 square metres.
He further observed that Willong is a site of early heritage of the State.
There are as many as 132 stone erections in the village that can be traced back to over 400 years.
However, the villagers believed that the stones might have been erected in the era of Before Christ.
The Archaeology Department would observe the World Heritage Day at Kangkhui next year.
The villagers in the interior parts of the State must be made fully aware of the importance of preserving their heritage, Dinamani asserted.
