Imphal, May 25 2022:
In solidarity with the nationwide observance of National Demand Day, Manipur Government employees would be staging a cease work strike in pursuance of 11 different demands.
In a joint press meet organised by Manipur Government Services' Federation (MGSF) and Manipur Secretariat Services' Association (MSSA) at the conference hall of Old Secretariat here on Wednesday, MSSA president and MGSF general secretary Purujit Lairikyengbam informed that the National Demand Day would also be observed on May 27 and 28 under the aegis of All India State Government Employees' Federation.
MGSF vice president L Sarat stated that the demands of the government employees are reasonable and will not affect the public in any way, apart from benefiting different sections of the society.
The government will not have any issues in fulfilling the above demands either but would rather benefit the administration and the state as a whole.
Meanwhile, United Forum of Bank Union Manipur State Committee chairman Soram Bijoy observed that government employees are struggling immensely due to delayed benefits, which they are entitled to.
Thus, various forms of protests would be staged in-the state during National Demand Day, which could further be intensified if the government fails to fulfil the above demands, he cautioned.
The demands to be raised during the protest would include re-implementing the old pension scheme; disbursement of pending DA; filling up regular vacancies under a Recruitment Board; establishment a Subordinate Recruitment Board and a Police Recruitment Board for streamlined hiring process; increasing promotional vacancies; resolving anomaly issues of employees including school teachers; providing 7th Pay Revision opportunities to employees of Grant-in-aid bodies; stopping the trend of service extension in all departments; preventing contract appointments for regular vacancies in all departments; disbursement of pensioners' benefit and providing service benefits to work-charged employees in accordance with the rules.
