Mary Kom inaugurates Sports Science Centre

London Olympics bronze medallist and multiple times world champion pugilist MC Mary Kom inaugurated the Sports Science Centre of Sports Authority of India (SAI) National Centre of Excellence (NCE), Imphal on Monday.
Speaking at the event, Mary Kom, who is also a Rajya Sabha MP and has been honoured with Padma Bhusan award, expressed confidence that the newly inaugurated centre will not only benefits players of SAI but also sportspersons from across the state.
It will help in producing world class players by honing the skills of emerging sportspersons of the state, apart from facilitating researches in various sectors related to sports, she said, while urging the authority to work with dedication for providing the best service to the sportspersons.
Head of RIMS psychiatry department Dr RK Lenin, who also attended the event, said that the centre has different faculties and assured his assistance in filling up the shortcomings in sports psychology section.
Players need physical, mental and emotional support and the sports psychology section will help a lot in ensuring these supports to the players, he said.
SAI Imphal deputy director Leishangthem Ibom-cha said that Mary Kom had represented the country in 31 international competitions and she won medals in all these competitions.
She managed to make podium finishes despite lack of sporting facilities in the state.
The newly inaugurated centre will fill up the gaps in the field of sports and it will help in producing more Olympians from the state, he said.
SAI regional centre Imphal regional director Francis Marwin thanked RIMS for its support in developing the centre and other endeavours of SAI.
The new centre has state of the art equipment and it will help in improving the performance of state players and lay foundation for better performance in the international arena, he noted.
