Imphal, July 15 2015 :
Kwatha Meetei village under Chandel district is neglected in health, transport and education, claimed the villagers.
In a press meet held at the press club, Majorkhul Kshetrimayum Yaima representative of the village authority said that the first settlement at Kwatha village dates back to 1472 during the reign of Manipur King Kiyamba and King Pong of Myanmar.
There are around 70 houses and 700 settlers at present in Kwatha Khunjao and 60 people in Kwatha Khunou.
The original inhabitants of the villages were shifted from Kakwa of Imphal, he continued.
Addressing the negligence of the State government towards the villages Yaima said that despite various promises by works minister Kh Ratankumar, deputy chief minister Gaikhangngam and local MLA in developmental works of the village no works have been taken up till date or promises remain as empty words.
Yaima was accompanied by 20 villagers during the press meet.
He further said that the roads are in worst condition after three landslides took place and that the villagers volunteer themselves to clear the roads after the landslides which include lifting away heavy timber.
He also said that the government junior high school was having 150 students but the school is lacking faculties and it has only 45 students now.
On the health front only two nurses are posted in the health centre and there is lack of doctor for which the villagers have asked the district authority to send a medical officer once in a month but to no avail.
The electricity problem is never solved from the electricity officials and the villagers repaired on their own if they face any problem, said Yaima.
The Villagers also pointed out that the horticulture department should help them with horticultural projects in their villages as they have low production.
Yaima concerned about the deplorable condition of the villages in health, education and road condition said that if the authority does not take up actions in time they will start certain agitations.
