Imphal, July 15 2015 :
Janata Dal (United) Manipur appreciated all the members of the Manipur Legislative Assembly for withdrawing the controversial Manipur Regulation of Visitors Tenants and Migrant Workers Bill 2015 which had failed to find support from the public.
Party general secretary Lian Gangte also applauded the Manipur Government for finally gauging the sentiment of the public and for responding well to their demands by calling a special session of the Manipur Legislative Assembly.
Speaking exclusively to our agency, Lian Gangte said, "The all-political party committee on ILP had submitted recommendations to the Government before.
It was unfortunate that the Government did not take public opinion while passing the Bill.
Our party also had earlier opined that the Bill would turn out to be a controversial one suggested for amendments" .
Unhappy over the Bill, JCILPS had started agitating demanding withdrawal of the anti-indigenous people Bill and to frame a new one.
What is unfortunate was the death of one student Sapam Robinhood and injuring of many other protestors during the widespread agitation, he said.
Gangte added, "Better late than never that the Manipur Government finally came to its senses and had withdrawn the Bill.
But taking three months' time to get ready with another Bill is too long, and it should be one month only at the maximum" .
The JD (U) Manipur leader also appealed to the Manipuri public to support the State Government in its efforts to frame a new and better Bill.
