Ukhrul, July 15 2015 :
With the increase of water level and submergence of land, villagers of Chadong have shifted to the new resettlement area, reports Mungchan Zimik.
Six houses have been submerged.
If the water level increases some 10 feet, at least 30 houses will be submerged.
The newly elected ADC members also visited the affected villages.
The team later headed to Chadong village.
Ukhrul ADC Chairman Dr Yaronsho Ngalung while extending solidarity to the villagers assured all possible assistance.
Chadong village headman W Kasar said road connectivity and electricity have been cut off.
They are now relying on a single wooden boat for transportation.
Shifting and transportation of building materials through the under construction Thoubal Multi-purpose dam have led to huge expenditure because of the deplorable road condition.
The villagers said that they had earlier proposed Maphou Chadong, Mazarom and Khaipom for resettlement and this was agreed after conducting soil testing by the ERC.
However the resettlement area, Chadong Maphou, was chosen against the larger interest of the villagers.
Under the present circumstances, the villagers have no other option but to shift to the area.
The neighbouring villages have been helping them in dismantling and construction of houses.
However, majority villagers said that they will not leave the village until a mutual understanding is brought.
The villagers said that the local MLA has failed to understand their grievances and demands all this time.
The village Church elders were seen busy dismantling the Church guest house.
NPF Ukhrul Unit vice president RN Ramyo objected the State Government's arbitrary move and forced evacuation without following the whole process of R&R packages even though it is still under process.
