Awareness programme for vendors held

Ukhrul, April 05 2018:
A one day awareness programme for the vegetable vendors of Ukhrul Headquarters was held yesterday at DRDA Training Hall, Mini Secretariat Complex, Hamleikhong, Hungpung, Ukhrul.
The awareness programme was organised by the District Legal Services Authority, Ukhrul district under the initiative of the Para Legal Volunteers on the topic "Vendors/ Hawkers' Rights and Duties" and "Credit Counselling" with Alek Muivah CJM, Ukhrul and Yuireihor Khaleng, Programme Manager, VVD, as resource persons.
Over 200 women vendors participated the awareness programme.
Alek Muivah highlighted the rights, duties and responsibilities of the vegetable vendors with special reference to Protecting of Livelihood and Regulation of Street Vending Act 2014 and rights to practice of any profession or to carry on any occupation under the article 19(1)g of the Constitution of India.
Yuireihor Khaleng spoke about credit facilities and environment of the district touching areas ranging from the need for financial literacy, shortage of banking facilities and other non-banking credit institutes to loans and schemes under different national flagship programmes.
In an average Ukhrul has one bank for every 36,000 households whereas the national average stands at one bank for 9000 households, he said.
Similarly, in an average there is one ATM facility for 30,000 people in the district whereas the Imphal's average stands at one ATM for 5000 people, he added.
CD ratio (credit deposit ratio) of banks in Ukhrul is 16% while the national average of
CD ratio stands at 60%, he further stated.
