Public urged to join hands in saving environment

Stating that it would be difficult to save the environment if people continue to stay ignorant, despite the efforts of the government; Manipur Pollution Control Board chairman L Radhakishore has appealed to the people to take a proactive role in saving the environment.
He was speaking during the inaugural function of a new Ambient Air.Quality Monitoring Station set up at the office complex of Kangpokpi DC on Saturday.
The Ambient Air Quality Monitoring Station is the 7th station to be inaugurated in the state.
Speaking on the occasion, Radhakishore expressed that the ignorance of humankind has now lead to adverse climate changes resulting in low rainfall, high temperature, etc.
As such, Manipur Pollution Control Board has begun taking serious note of the air, noise, water and other forms of pollution in the state, he added.
Regarding the Ambient Air Quality Monitoring Station, the chairman said that a total of 12 stations are to be installed in the state to monitor the level of particulates in the air on district wise basis.
Necessary efforts in this regard will soon be taken up, he said and appealed to the people to assist the Board in restoring the environment of the state.
The inaugural function was also attended by Kangpokpi MLA Nemcha Kipgen, DC S Somorjit and others.
